New Mexico

We were vendors at a quilt show in Alamagordo, NM.  This was the Southern New Mexico Quilt Festival.  Pam Holland of Australia was doing three days of classes.  We met her as we have advertised in the Southern Australia Quilt Guild Magazine.  What I liked about this show was that the proceeds from the show and concession stand went towards children's charities.  It seemed to be a community event as the sheriff department was there IDing children for free.  Proceeds went to the DARE Program.

We have also received new fabric from Blank.  This is from the Mayu Collection and the Lafayette Collection.  These can be seen at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/ and under the new heading.

New fabric

New fabric from South Sea Imports called It's A Dog's Life by Bella Lu Studios.  It is cute and bright.  They did cats last year and they sold fast.  We also got some more of the Arizona Centennial Fabric, except they backordered the focus fabric.  Keep checking back to see if we have gotten it in.

My nephew left for basic training last week.  He is at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  I was there and did my basic many, many years ago, but it was the same time of year, hot and humid.

Centennial Fabric

We are getting a shipment this week again of the focal fabric for the Arizona Centennial Quilt project.  It went pretty fast.  It was unusual and people really liked it.  So if you are still interested in getting it, it will be in the end of this week.

Memorial Day Weekend

It was a nice weekend.  We got away to Loew's Resort at Ventana Canyon and did nothing but eat, get in and out of the pool.  We closed the shop early Saturday and came back on Monday afternoon.  Good to get away.   We actually went to a mall (way too many people).  Give me the country any time.

Back at the shop I am piecing my backing for my Flag of Valor quilt.  I am going to try and start quilting it tomorrow.  We are expecting more of the Arizona Centennial Fabric this week.  We have sold out of the first shipment.

Western Fabric or Rodeo

This is a western fabric that was made into a jacket for me by Karen Clarke of Tucson, AZ.  She makes custom jackets.  It was lined with a solid black.  It is nice for cool mornings and evenings.  I've had a lot of compliments on this jacket.  Fabric available at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/.

I am currently working on a Quilt of Valor kit by Moda calle Flag of Valor.  Will post some pictures when I get more done.  Laura

Flag of Valor

Why is it, when you get to the last block for a quilt it never works out the first time and you have to tear it out not once, but more than once.  This is a quilt kit from Moda called Flag of Valor.  Part of the proceeds goes to Quilts of Valor which presents quilts to wounded veterans.  This can be purchased at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/

Lou

Here is a picture of Lou my buckskin filly.  She is 3 years old and her real name is A Holey Doc Prom.  I showed her a couple of weeks ago in ranch horse versatility.  She did well for a young horse.  She placed in 4 out of her 5 classes.  We have lots of room to improve.  At cowgirl-upquilts we have some new rodeo fabric, one is a roping panel.  You can see it at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/

Flowers of the Sun

We have new fabric called Flowers of the Sun.  This is really pretty, big and bold sunflowers.  There is a pretty sunflower border and some pretty large rust colored sunflowers.  These would make wonderful bags.  We also have gotten in some Spatter by South Seas and more Moda blenders.

April is here

April is here.  Spring is definitely here as the trees are budding out.  We didn't get any rain this winter and we certainly need it.  Hopefully we won't have to wait until monsoon season in July.  We are watering trees it seems like almost the time.

Provence collection by Blank

Things are slowing down here at the shop.  We are expecting the new Southwest Beauties line from In The Beginning Fabrics.  This fabric was designed by Jason Yenter for the Arizona Centennial Quilt Challange.  There is some really nice southwest prints.  I will post them on http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/ and here when they arrive.  We also have some shade cascade by Karen Combs arriving sometime this month.  Laura

Long time

It has been a long time since I have blogged.  We have done several quilt shows.  We did the Arizona Quilt Guild show in Mesa, Double Adobe, Sierra Vista and this weekend Green Valley.  This was four weekends in a row.  We won't be doing anything until summer.  The shows were better than last year.  Hope this is a sign that the economy is improving.

We have some new fabric called Max and Whiskers by Moda.  This is dogs and cats or cats and dogs, whichever you like the best.  Stop in to see us soon or stop in at the on-line store at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/

It's been a while

It's been a while since I've posted anything.  Tomorrow we will pack up and head to Sierra Vista, AZ for a quilt show.  This is sponsored by the Hummingbird Stitchers Quilt Guild.  It is a Saturday and Sunday show.  Looking forward to seeing our customers there.  The quilts are also amazing.  We will be doing a Drive In Drive By Quilt Retreat at Butterfield RV Park on April 8-10th.  The cost is $250.00 and includes two days of classes, three nights of RV camping, breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday with a brunch on Sunday.

We've got some new fabric in.  You can go to http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/ .  Laura

Normal weather

Neat button fabric at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/
Our Arizona sunshine and warmth has returned finally. I hope last week was the only week of winter that we will have and hopefully not get that cold again, for another 60 years, but we were very lucky to escape with only frozen hot water for a day.  Time to get back to getting the filly ready to show.  The days are getting longer so maybe I can sneak in a ride more often after work.  The shop has been busy, but I don't think as busy as last year at this time.  We will be doing a quilt show in Sierra Vista the last weekend of the month.  Looking forward to doing that.  Not far from home and only two days.

Deep Freeze

We survived the deep freeze last week.  It was 1 degree on Thursday morning when we let the dogs out.  Our hot water froze, but that was about it.  Nothing froze at the shop.  We had to carry water we heated on the stove to the barn to water the horses.  Hopefully that was our week of winter this year.  We are having a sale at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/.  Everything in the store is 25% off.

Still cold

It has turned cold and windy.  Yesterday we got some much needed rain.  Our trees were in need of a good drink.  Tonight it will get down into the upper 20s and then I think colder for a few nights.  Luckily we are not in the midwest.  Looks like a mess there.  I do have some fabric shipping from there, that seems right now to be missing in action, but I'm sure it will show up in a day or so.
Right now I need some happy fabric like this one at http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/.  It is by George Mendoza for Free Spirit.

Cold

Cold weather is relative.  Here in Arizona below 50 is cold.  It is windy, rainy and cold.  Yesterday we were out riding in our long sleeve t-shirts and were comfortable.  Today it is cold.  Warm up and look at the website for some new patterns.  The latest upload is by Lizzie B Cre8tive.  It is called Java Jive, just the thing for a cold, windy and rainy day.

Been a While

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted.  This past weekend we were vendors at the Desert Lily Quilt Show in Yuma.  People seemed to be buying instead of picking things up and carrying them around and then putting them down. I am hoping that the economy is finally starting to turn around.  I heard that the Road To California show was better to.  We have new fabric in called Wise Tree by Free Spirit.  It is pretty wild.   You can order this by going to http://www.cowgirl-upquilts.com/.  Cowgirl-Up Quilts is also having a Drive By Drive In Quilt Retreat in Benson, AZ on April 8, 9, and 10.  This will be held at Butterfield RV Park.  The cost will be $250.00.  Hope to see some of our out-of-town customers.  You can call at the shop for more info at 520-586-1616.

Rodeo Fabric

We finally got some rodeo fabric in.  Rodeo fabric has been hard to find.  This is by Blank and is called Best of the West II.

It has been cool here, but I can't complain because it has been snowing in the east and the south.  The kids in Tn are ready for spring.  The grandkids have been out of  school since last Thursday, so I can't complain about the weather here.

If you read legal thrillers, my brother Scott Pratt has a new one out.  It is called Reasonable Fear and can be purchased at amazon.com or it will be available as a download to Kindle in a few weeks.

Holidays are over

The holidays are over and it is good to get back into the regular schedule.  We had a very quiet Christmas at home.  The weather turned bad and we got ice and snow (not really common).  It hasn't really warmed up.  We spent New Years at Grapevine Canyon Ranch and listened to music and danced.  Now it is back to the real world.  Come in and see us.  We have classes starting again.  The first class will be a doll class taught by Ruith Lewis.  The cost is $35.00 and will include the cost of the kit for a doll.  Call the shop at 520-586-1616.
